How AI Can Help in Manufacturing

The digital transformation of industry is generating vast amounts of data and opening up new possibilities for its use. Thanks to artificial intelligence and machine learning, experts can structure, analyze, and evaluate this data. As reported by MM Průmyslové spektrum, AI can significantly accelerate the transition to process automation and bring new opportunities for streamlining operations—from design through production to customer communication. Our CEO, Michal Vašát, also shared his views on the topic of artificial intelligence in engineering in a professional survey. The editors of MM Průmyslové spektrum approached him as a representative of v-tech, a manufacturer of clamping systems for CNC machining and automation. 

Michal Vašát on AI in engineering and technical development

In the article, our CEO Michal Vašát describes how, due to the nature of his education and profession, he was primarily interested in “hardware.” About five years ago, however, he realized that the potential for technical development in this field had reached its limit. That is why he began to focus more on programming in C++, which naturally ties into the field of artificial intelligence today. At the same time, he points out that AI development is very rapid, making it challenging to keep up with all the new procedures, trends, and technological innovations alongside day-to-day engineering work. 

The Use of AI in Manufacturing Practice, CNC Monitoring, and Automation

At v-tech s.r.o., we are currently exploring where AI can be practically applied. One area we are testing is the re-scheduling of production plans using an AI model to achieve a more optimal distribution of production operations on the shop floor. 
Another area is our CNC Sensor application for monitoring CNC machines. We are working to implement a more abstract evaluation of production based on generated and pre-processed data from machine tools. At the same time, we are collaborating with the CIIRC center at the Czech Technical University in Prague on the development of a “smart” camera system for an automatic loader project. 

AI for Documents, Day-to-Day Business Operations, and Programming

At v-tech, we also use artificial intelligence in our day-to-day business operations. In his article, Michal Vašát notes that he uses AI almost every day to generate various documents. He also sees great value in AI’s support for creating source code when programming applications. According to him, this is where AI delivers the greatest time savings. From our perspective, AI thus helps not only with production and technical matters but also in areas related to administration, application development, and the day-to-day operations of the company.

Risks of AI in Engineering and Future Applications in v-tech

Given the size of our company, we recognize that we use AI quite extensively, and we see great potential for further applications in the future. At the same time, however, we are also aware of its risks. In the interview, Michal Vašát points out, for example, that the data sent is processed on a server, and it is not always clear what happens to it afterward or how internal AI models might use it further.  This is precisely why, when using AI in a company, it is important to consider not only its benefits but also data security and what information is fed into these tools.
